On a bright Saturday morning, the AHOY team rolled into Olomu Junior Secondary School in Ajah, Lagos, with one clear goal: to empower young girls with the knowledge and tools they need to stay healthy and confident. Our “Hygiene Awareness & Support for Young Female Students” program was more than a one‑off event—it was a step toward a more inclusive, empowered community.
What We Did
– Interactive Sessions: We led lively discussions on personal hygiene, menstrual health, and gender‑related issues, encouraging questions and sharing of experiences.
– Free Sanitary Packs: 500 students received branded packs containing sanitary pads, soap, and a small refreshment. Each pack was designed to make hygiene feel special and to remind every girl that she matters.
– Empowerment Talk: Beyond the basics, we highlighted the importance of education, self‑esteem, and the role of girls in shaping our future.
Why It Matters
Supporting the girl child isn’t just about providing pads or lessons; it’s about building a society that values every individual, regardless of gender. When girls have access to proper hygiene resources and knowledge, they can stay in school, pursue their dreams, and become leaders in their own right.
