Democracy Must Protect Every Child: AHOY Flagship Commends Government Rapid Intervention, Demands Further Action on Remaining Captives
Lagos, Nigeria – As the nation commemorates Democracy Day, the Association of Humble and Obedient Youths, (Pyrates of AHOY Flagship), celebrates the ideals of freedom and justice while reflecting on the state of our children.
We commend the authorities and security agencies for their joint efforts and collaboration in securing the release of some abducted persons in Borno State, as their reunion with their respective families is a resounding proof that coordinated action works, and we acknowledge the dexterity of the men and women who made that possible.
Nevertheless, there is more to be achieved, as We call on government and all stakeholders to expedite action on the school children and citizens still in captivity — particularly the abducted victims in Ogbomoso and other affected places across the nation.
Every day in captivity is a day too long. Every child still missing is a debt democracy owes its Citizenry.
True Democracy is measured by the safety of its most vulnerable citizens. When one school is unsafe, every school is unsafe. When one child is missing, the nation’s conscience is missing.
We therefore urge:
1. Sustained, transparent operations to secure the release of all remaining abductees without delay.
2. Strengthened protection for schools and communities nationwide, from Borno to Oyo States, as well as other parts of the Country.
3. Unwavering commitment that education remains non-negotiable, even in conflict.
Democracy must protect every child, every community, and every future.
Signed
