The Association of Humble and Obedient Youths (AHOY), Sango-Ota Chapter, recently made a significant impact on the lives of 100 students at St. Michael African Church School in Ota, Ogun State. Their community-focused charity drive addressed a critical gap in low-income families’ access to proper school footwear, a factor influencing health, attendance, and confidence among children.

Volunteers from AHOY organized a distribution event on school premises, ensuring each recipient received a new pair of sandals and matching socks. Teachers and parents assisted in identifying eligible students, prioritizing those without functional footwear. The event included brief talks on foot health, hygiene, and the importance of consistent school attendance.
The initiative yielded impressive results: improved student morale and increased daily attendance. Parents expressed gratitude, noting reduced household expenses and eased concerns about foot injuries and infections. AHOY’s footwear initiative demonstrates how targeted, low-cost interventions can significantly impact educational outcomes and child well-being.

The Sango-Ota Chapter plans to expand the program to additional schools and incorporate educational workshops on personal hygiene and disease prevention. This initiative showcases the power of community-driven efforts in creating lasting change.
