2025: AHOY’s Call to Action for a Literate Nigeria
The Association of Humble and Obedient Youths (AHOY) – Pyrates of AHOY Flagship joins the global community in celebrating International Literacy Day 2025. This year’s theme underscores the importance of literacy as a fundamental human right and a cornerstone for individual and societal development.
In Nigeria, despite progress, literacy remains a pressing challenge. Many citizens, particularly in rural and underserved areas, lack access to quality education, perpetuating cycles of poverty and inequality. AHOY recognizes the critical role literacy plays in empowering individuals, fostering economic growth, and promoting social mobility.
In support of this year’s celebration, AHOY calls on the government and Nigerian elites to intensify efforts in promoting literacy nationwide. We urge increased investment in education infrastructure, teacher training, and initiatives that make learning materials and resources more accessible to all.
Through our “Welcome Back to School” projects, AHOY has consistently demonstrated its commitment to addressing literacy challenges in Nigeria. By distributing school materials and promoting educational opportunities, we aim to bridge gaps and create a more inclusive learning environment.
As we mark International Literacy Day 2025, we renew our pledge to collaborate with stakeholders in advancing literacy initiatives. Together, we can build a Nigeria where every citizen has the opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive.
Let us work collectively to make literacy a reality for all Nigerians. We appeal to the government, private sector, and well-meaning individuals to support our efforts in promoting education and literacy. Together, we can create a brighter future for our nation.
